2012 was such an insane cultural moment

no but for real . Gangnam style call me maybe riptide we are young . lana releases her first album and changed pop forever . Frank ocean releases his first album . 1D premieres . grimes releases genesis . and the movies. don’t even get me started. the first avengers movie the last twilight movie hunger games the hobbit les mis. like them or hate them they were cultural phenomenons. minecraft was at its peak before it was deemed cringe and before the minecraft renaissance. 2012 was one of the last good years of youtube too . and everyone was rlly into moustaches for whatever reason

it’s hard to overstate how terrified i am of this ‘opening up’ termed ‘Freedom Day’ by our govt.

all of england losing every single mandated safety measure at once, as we’re looking at rising cases due to delta and 50,000+ people hospitalised a day already. with those precautions in place.

with our PM saying that ‘we must resign ourselves to more deaths’, like the sacrifice of another 160,000 people is already cut and dried.

add to this my own personal financial situation (not good) and i just……….

look. i’m a lot of minorities. i’m queer, mixed race, working class, etc etc. i’m no stranger to the government, especially a tory government, trying to brush me and those like me aside.

but good grief. this. this is next level murder. and aside from a handful of news articles hemming and hawing about the 1200 global scientists decrying the ‘petri dish’ that this country is going to become, there’s very little outrage? outcry? anything?

i cannot fathom it. so many lives are going to be lost. so many people are going to be given lifelong chronic illnesses. my mother and i are going to have to continue to shelter.

it’s beyond callous.

“aside from a handful of news articles hemming and hawing about the 1200 global scientists decrying the ‘petri dish’ that this country is going to become, there’s very little outrage? outcry? anything?”

This is what does my head in. The majority of people seem… fine with this? Almost eager for it? Like, I have legit seen more outrage from the British public about restrictions preventing them from holidaying in Portugal this Summer than I have outrage about cessation of regulations that are keeping them alive.

And it’s not like masking and staying 2 metres apart is this huge imposition; we could easily keep it up without being much of a burden on anyone. So the decision is just… ???? It’s like announcing people don’t have to wear seat belts any more if they promise to drive really slowly. WHAT COULD GO WRONG.

Anyway, yeah, I got my second jab last week, but with the drop in safety precautions and the delta plus variant raging, I guess that’s amounting to 0% change in how I go about my life, because I have some chronic health conditions and fuck if I’m gonna risk getting long covid just cause the average person in this country has the self-preservation instinct of a dodo bird.

just can’t vibe with the kind of feminism that implies or states outright that the reason men mistreat women is because of some insurmountable biological difference rather than social phenomena. you’re not explaining or saying anything interesting about misogyny you’re just naturalizing it
